Everblue

Track 2 from the album Focal Point. A song about the environmental legacy we are leaving for our children.

Where have all the flowers gone
The fields where we once played
The grass is green in photographs
And now it’s washed away

Sands fall through the hourglass
Time and tide pass by
A butterfly hangs overhead
Then crashes from the sky

Look what we’re done
You will burn in our sun
You will eat what we breed
You will choke where we breathe
You will fight when we rest
You will die from our thefts
You will drink from our waste
We will die in disgrace

Everblue this we give to you
Look the other way
Just for one more day
We just look the other way
Sorry to betray
We just look the other way
Spend and let you pay
We just look the other way
Nothing more to say
We just look the other way
Just for one more day
We just look the other way
Sorry to betray
We just look the other way
Kiss your ass and pray
We just look the other way
Nothing more to say
Look the other way
Just for one more day
We just look the other way
Nothing more to say

My thoughts as of 2020: I know ecology has always been on the world agenda but with the international movements catalysed by the climate activist Gretta Thunberg I think this song is even more relevant today.

The egg timer will eventually run dry.
